A new film by award-winning French videographer Emmanuel Rondeau will premiere online on World Rewilding Day 2026. “The Danube Delta and the Healing Power of Nature” tells the story of how rewilding is helping one of Europe’s most remarkable landscapes recover, while offering hope and renewal to Ukrainian people living through the impacts of war.

On World Environment Day, a milestone event took place in Ukraine giving hope for the preservation and further ecological restoration of the Tarutino Steppe, the second largest steppe in Europe after the Askania-Nova Biosphere Reserve. It is a home to a significant number of steppe animals and plants, many of which are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine.

Measures to restore damaged areas of the Tarutino Steppe are part of a vision to establish a wilder local landscape governed more by natural processes.
